Our school vision for teaching Art
“I am seeking. I am striving. I am in it with all my heart.”
Vincent Van Gogh
At St Patrick’s Primary school, we believe that the study of art allows all pupils to understand, appreciate and contribute to a part of life which taps into and expresses human imagination and innovation. Art provides pupils with the knowledge and power to appreciate and interpret what they observe and experience, whilst building on means of communication and imagination.
Our curriculum enables all our pupils to express themselves through creating individual and collaborative artwork, whilst developing theoretical knowledge about artists and their masterpieces. The purposefully designed curriculum encourages our pupils to think about how art is studied and judged by the wider population.
Our pupils’ have the freedom to experiment with their ideas, use of colour, texture, form, and pattern. They enjoy collaborating with others to make large scale art projects, evident around our school, developing the values of joy, peace, and hope. We take immense pride in our sketchbooks which display our creativity, imagination, and interests.
