Welcome to Saint Romero our Year 5/6 Class Page. I hope you all had a lovely summer and are looking forward to our adventure together this year in upper key Stage Two. I am Miss Iannaccone, the class teacher, and we are supported by Miss Dziobek. We look forward to helping you grow and develop knowledge and understanding of the world around us this year. We have lots of exciting and interesting things to learn about during our first term from ‘The Water Cycle’ in Geography, to ‘Victorians’ in History.

Upper Key Stage Two is a very exciting time at primary school and our children have some great activities and experiences to look forward to this year. To help with organisation, here are some days to remember each week:

Homework

· Century Tech

The children are set 4 nuggets of learning every Tuesday (2 x English and 2 x Maths) that are linked to the learning that they are currently completing in class. If they achieve less than 80% we encourage the children to revisit the video tutorial at the beginning of the nugget to aid their understanding. https://app.century.tech/login/

· Accelerated reading

We encourage our children to read every day at home. After completing the STAR Reading Test in school, your child picks a book at their own level (ZPD range) and reads it at their own pace. When finished, your child is then able to take a short quiz on the computer, iPad or other online device at home or in school. Please see the link below for reading quizzes. https://global-zone61.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/2255571

The pupils can also navigate to this page via our school website which they are familiar with. We would expect that your child would achieve 80% and above in these quizzes.

· Spellings

Your child will have a spelling log book with a list of bespoke spellings tailored for them. They will have a test weekly on these spellings and their results are recorded in this book.

Please see below a list of further useful links to help with your child’s learning: https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student https://www.purplemash.com/sch/stpatricksol12#/

All their login details are in their reading log journal

PE is on a Monday and all children must wear their St. Patrick’s PE kit on this day.

We look forward to sharing the exciting learning that takes place in Saint Romero through the school newsletter, and Twitter as well as future celebration assemblies, workshops and open days.  Our aim is to create a positive and healthy learning atmosphere supported by our Christion beliefs where we help and support one another and are kind.

There are lots of opportunities to take on extra responsibilities around the school such as: leading by example as school role models to the younger children; taking the lead with School Council; participating as members of the GIFT and Caritas Team; assisting with assemblies; and representing the school at the various competitions and outside of school events.
