Hello and welcome to your Year 1/2 ST Francis’ homepage.

My name is Miss Taylor and I am excited to be your child’s teacher this year! We are also lucky enough to have Mrs Healy as our amazing teaching assistant.

Below you can find an overview of essential information within our year 1/2 classroom to hopefully answer some questions.

Communication

My class has an open door policy where I welcome conversations with parents on a regular basis. I also aim to keep our class Twitter page up to date on a regular basis so that you are able to see what we have been up to in year 1/2 so please follow our class page.

Continuous Provision

We have carefully selected a range of resources for children to engage with to encourage children to explore, investigate, and learn through play. The aim is to create an environment that promotes active learning, creativity, problem-solving, and social interaction. By having a range of engaging resources readily available, children can follow their own interests and engage in self-directed learning in addition to teacher-directed learning. We have daily access to our outdoor continuous provision, so please bring in a pair of wellies to keep in school.

Books

Reading wallets should be brought to school daily. Our linked read write ink books will be changed on a three day cycle, with reading for pleasure books being changed weekly. Myself, or another member of staff will read with your child on a regular basis to ensure the book they have is appropriate for them and progress within reading is being made.

Homework/ spellings

Spelling homework will be sent out on a Tuesday and will need to be returned to school on a Monday. Children will also complete a Numbots module weekly, these passwords can be found in the front of their reading books.

Water bottles

All children should have a water bottle separate to their lunch which they will be able to access throughout the whole school day. These will be sent home daily for cleaning.

PE kits

Tuesday will be our set PE day where children are to come into school in full kit. This has been decided to prevent potential issues with lost kits.

Key Information:

  • Homework will be collected in on a Monday and sent home on a Tuesday.
  • Weekly homework for unit 2 includes; spellings, reading and Numbots.
  • Our PE day is a Tuesday. Children need to wear their PE kit to school on their PE day.
  • As we have daily access to our outdoor continuous provision area, please ensure your child has a pair of wellies in school.
