Page Under Construction

Hello and welcome to our Year 1/2 St Francis’ homepage!
My name is Miss Taylor, and I am delighted to be your child’s teacher this year. We are also very lucky to have Mrs Ajmal as our wonderful teaching assistant. From January 2026, I will be on maternity leave and we welcome Miss Abbott-May who will teach the class until my return.
Below, you will find an overview of key information about our Year 1/2 classroom, which will hopefully answer any questions you may have.
Communication
Our class has an open-door policy, and I warmly welcome regular conversations with parents. I also aim to keep our class Twitter page updated so you can see what we have been learning and enjoying in Year 1/2. Please follow us at @unit2stfrancis.
Continuous Provision
We have carefully selected a range of resources to encourage children to explore, investigate, and learn through play. Our aim is to create an environment that promotes active learning, creativity, problem-solving, and positive social interaction.
Children can follow their own interests through self-directed learning in addition to teacher-led activities. We have daily access to our outdoor continuous provision, so please ensure your child has a pair of wellies to keep in school.
Books
Reading wallets should be brought to school every day.
Our Read Write Inc. books will be changed on a three-day cycle, and reading-for-pleasure books will be changed weekly.
Your child will read with a member of staff regularly to ensure their book is appropriate and to support progress in reading.
Homework & Spellings
Comprehension or maths homework will be sent home on Tuesday and must be returned on Monday.
Children are also expected to complete one Numbots module weekly. Passwords can be found inside the front of their reading books.
Water Bottles
All children should bring a water bottle (separate from their lunch drink), which they can access throughout the day. Bottles will be sent home daily for cleaning.
PE Kits
Our PE day is Tuesday. Children should come to school dressed in their full PE kit. This helps prevent issues with lost clothing.
